The Importance of Native Plants & Starting Your Own Native Garden

July 20, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Authors Stephen Brown and Ann Milligan will share how they transformed their yard into a beautiful nature preserve for pollinators and wildlife, as described in their book Let the Earth Breathe: Gardening with Native Plants. Gardeners have expressed the need for a beginners’ handbook to create Kentucky native landscapes at home. The authors have spent 13 years doing just that, creating formal and informal spaces with regionally native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and ferns via sunny rain gardens, dry shade, and wet/dry meadows and prairies. This book and several others will be available for purchase as well.
This program was funded in part by the Kentucky Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
