Research on fallen soldiers on file at Library

September 11 of this year marks the eighteenth solemn anniversary of the most devastating attack on American soil since the attack at Pearl Harbor. Thousands of people lost their lives in the attack and thousands more soldiers lost their lives in the ensuing and ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In the August–September edition of our newsletter, From the Stacks,we included a brief section thanking Mrs. Nancy Hill for her very generous donation of time and research. Mrs. Hill spent six years carefully researching the lives of 106 fallen soldiers from Shelby County. Her research includes information on twenty-nine soldiers who died in World War I, fifty-seven soldiers who died in World War II, seven who died in the Korean War, and thirteen who died in the Vietnam War.

Two binders of her research.

Her research can be found in the vertical files directly behind the reference desk in the Kentucky Room and in two binders along the back wall. Contact Adult Services Librarian Shana Schack at (502) 633-3803 or reference@scplibrary.netfor more information about the genealogic and historical resources available at no cost in the Kentucky Room. More information about the Kentucky Room can be found here.
